Qualifications for License and Ordination

Ordination and license is open to all true Christians, whose lives give evidence of the genuineness of their faith, and who are in harmony with the doctrines and administration (See the International Corps of Chaplains Statement of Faith) of the International Corps of Chaplains, providing they meet the educational standards or have the ministry experience that would qualify them for ordination. They shall be classified as follows:

Candidates who are of good character and meet the qualifications may be granted credentials as an ordained minister and chaplain of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and represent Chaplains International, Inc. as authorized clergy.

Those who are eligible to serve as clergy must meet the following standards:

1-1) Candidates who are currently working in ministry as a chaplain, in such a capacity as a prison chaplain, law-enforcement chaplain, hospital chaplain, or church pastor, may seek license and ordination with the International Corp of Chaplains, Bible Institutes, Bible College and Seminary graduates may seek license and ordination upon verification of college or seminary transcripts and ministry activities.

1-2) Professional clergy who hold credentials with a local church or denomination may hold dual credentials with the International Corps of Chaplains. Candidates who are seeking to be credentialed as a member of the clergy and yet do not have clergy credentials with any known church, denomination, or Christian fellowship may qualify for ordination, provided their (Validated) experience or education supports the position that they seek. Genuineness of their faith, and who are in harmony with the doctrines and administration (See the International Corps of Chaplains Statement of Faith) of the International Corps of Chaplains, providing they meet the educational standards or have the ministry experience that would qualify them for ordination. They shall be classified as follows:

1-3) Professional Chaplains will receive a certificate of appointment and a chaplain's ID card. Official International Corps of Chaplains chaplain badges may be carried along with their chaplain's credentials.

Those who are eligible to serve as lay ministers (Associate level) must meet the following standards:

2-2) All ordination and Associate Level candidates must submit a signed application and all supporting documents that validate the application (including a ministry resume) for service and submit it to the International Corps of Chaplains Commission of License and Ordination for approval. Upon a vote by (NOT LESS THAN TWO QUALIFIED BOARD MEMBERS), commission members, in person, telephonically, or on occasion by written vote, the commission may approve or deny an applicant.

Policy and Agreement

3-1) All Ordained and Associate Chaplains must agree to continue to seek education and advancement in the area of crisis intervention and other types of training related to the field of chaplaincy when such training is available. The International Corps of Chaplains is a Christian-based organization that supports a statement of faith as listed on our website at the International Corps of Chaplains Statement of Faith..

3-2) The International Corps of Chaplains will not consider awarding credentials as an Ordained Chaplain / Minister to those individuals who hold clergy credentials from organizations that are questionable or whose doctrines conflict with the International Corps of Chaplains Statement of Faith.

3-3) Any chaplain caught misusing the International Corps of Chaplains' credentials or a chaplain badge in any manner, criminal or unprofessional, will have their license revoked.

3-4) Candidates must understand that the International Corps of Chaplains is not a law enforcement agency, but rather an institutional support organization and Christian fellowship of ministers and chaplains.

Candidates who are granted credentials with the International Corps of Chaplains are not to use their credentials to acquire special privileges or considerations.

Candidates who are granted credentials are not authorized by the International Corps of Chaplains to identify themselves as peace officers. All members of the International Corps of Chaplains are expected to conduct themselves in a manner becoming of any person who is serving in ministry.

3-5) The International Corps of Chaplains does not discriminate against women who may choose to serve in the role of a chaplain. The International Corps of Chaplains does not discriminate based on race or color. All candidates are required to be in good standing with a local church and may be called upon by members within the International Corps of Chaplains and Chaplains International network to respond to a crisis as needed.

3-6) All CI chaplains are considered inter-denominational and are not to use their credentials for proselytizing unless permitted by the person or institution to which they are providing services.

Badge Policy (Official CI and generic badges)

4-1) Chaplain Badges engraved with the Trademark name International Corps of Chaplains may be carried by an ordained member of the organization. A valid International Corps of Chaplains identification card must accompany chaplain badges. All International Corps of Chaplains badges must contain on the lower panel of each badge the official identification number of the clergy of record. All clergy must be in good standing with the organization. Chaplains who are authorized to carry an official ICOC badge with their organizational ID must agree to follow a code of conduct prescribed by the International Corps of Chaplains and the law as it pertains to the use of a badge while performing their duties. Chaplains are prohibited from misrepresenting themselves in a manner that would suggest or imply that the person in possession of a badge is serving in a capacity other than the designated role of organizational chaplain.

(Badges must be purchased separately) Professional Chaplains will be listed in our database of network chaplains for referral purposes.

The Commission on License and Ordination meets once a month, and the application may take up to 4 to 6 weeks for final approval.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES

Chaplain Assistant (INTERN): $130.00. Membership fees may be paid using PayPal or a Credit card. Credentials must be renewed annually.

Ordination Minister / Chaplain: $130.00. Membership fees may be paid using PayPal or a Credit card. Credentials must be renewed annually.

Renewal fees are $130.00 annually. All fund must be made in US funds via debit or credit card.

Authorized Chaplain Badges

Only fully Ordained Chaplains are authorized by the Commission of License and Ordination to carry a International Corps of Chaplains Badge on their person.
Due to the high cost, official badges must be purchased separately.
Each badge is made to order with your Official ID number and takes approximately eight weeks for production.
